My mother-in-law, Monica, has always been a bit of a handful. She has a knack for finding fault in everything I do, from my cooking to my cleaning. But what really takes the cake is her obsession with snooping through our personal belongings.
It started a few months ago when she would excuse herself to use the restroom during family gatherings. But instead of heading to the guest bathroom downstairs, she would make a beeline for our bedroom upstairs.
At first, I tried to brush it off as mere curiosity. But as it kept happening, I realized that she was intentionally trying to snoop through our things. I caught her red-handed once, rummaging through my jewelry box and dresser drawers.
I confronted her, but she just played it off like she was lost and couldn’t find the bathroom. I knew I had to take matters into my own hands.
I decided to set a trap for her, but not just any trap – a glitter trap. I covered the doorknob to our bedroom in a thick layer of golden glitter. I knew that if she tried to enter our room again, she would be in for a surprise.
The night of the holiday dinner arrived, and Monica was in rare form, criticizing everything from the tablecloth to the food. But I just smiled and waited for her to make her move.
Sure enough, after dinner, she excused herself to use the restroom. But instead of heading downstairs, she made a beeline for our bedroom. And that’s when it happened – she screamed as she touched the glitter-covered doorknob.
The room fell silent as we all rushed upstairs to see what had happened. And there she was, covered in glitter, looking like a human disco ball.
I couldn’t help but smile as I said, “I guess this is what happens when you try to snoop through other people’s things.”
Monica was furious, but I just shrugged it off. I knew I had made my point. And as we cleaned up the glitter, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction.
Maybe it was a bit drastic, but sometimes you need to take drastic measures to make a point. And I’m just glad that I could do it in such a sparkly way.
