Lidia Elizabeth Reyes Cespedes, an animal rescuer from Chile, had taken in an elderly stray dog named Viejito, which translates to “Little Old Man.” Despite his advanced age, Viejito lived for a year under Cespedes’ care, a testament to her kindness and dedication.
When Viejito’s time finally came to an end, Cespedes and a companion took him to a quiet spot in the countryside to lay him to rest. As they prepared to bury Viejito, they heard a faint whimpering sound. To their surprise, a puppy emerged from the underbrush, running towards them with an air of familiarity.
The puppy’s sudden appearance was a moment of profound significance for Cespedes. It was as if Viejito had sent a new angel to comfort her in her time of grief. As Cespedes dug a hole for Viejito’s body, the puppy watched calmly, almost as if paying its respects.
Once the burial was complete, the puppy rested atop the mound, a poignant gesture that seemed to symbolize a connection between the two dogs.
