Donald Trump’s legal battles have reached a historic turning point, as New York’s Court of Appeals has refused to delay his sentencing in the notorious “hush money” case. This decision marks the first time a former president will be sentenced in a criminal case, just days before his second inauguration.

The charges stem from payments made to silence an adult film star before the 2016 election. Prosecutors argued that Trump falsified business records to conceal these payments while in office. A jury found him guilty of 34 felony counts.

Trump’s legal team argued that he was immune from prosecution as a president-elect, but prosecutors countered that no such precedent exists. The Supreme Court also denied Trump’s request to delay sentencing, stating that the trial court’s decision posed minimal interference with his duties.

Though Trump will not face incarceration, the conviction carries significant implications for his political future. Speaking from Mar-a-Lago, he called the case politically motivated but expressed readiness to proceed with the sentencing.

This landmark case reflects years of investigation into Trump’s business dealings, uncovering financial misconduct that continues to shape his public image.
