A Science Teacher’s Clever Lesson and a Student’s Blush-Worthy Reaction

Mrs. Parks, a 6th-grade science teacher, decided to spice up her lesson with a thought-provoking question. She asked her students, “Which human body part increases to ten times its size when stimulated?” The room went quiet as the kids looked at each other, unsure of how to respond.

Little Mary, however, wasn’t having it. She stood up and scolded her teacher, saying, “That’s not an appropriate question for sixth-graders! I’m telling my parents, and they’ll make sure the principal fires you!” Mrs. Parks calmly ignored Mary and repeated the question. Mary gasped and whispered to her friends, “She’s really going to get in trouble for this!”

After a few moments of silence, Billy, a shy student, raised his hand and answered, “The pupil of the eye increases ten times its size when stimulated.” Mrs. Parks nodded and said, “Correct, Billy!”

Then, she turned to Mary and delivered a witty response: “Mary, I have three things to tell you. One, you have a dirty mind. Two, you didn’t do your homework. And three, one day you’re going to be very, very disappointed.” The class burst into laughter, and Mary’s face turned beet red. It was a lesson in science—and humility—that no one would forget.
