A controversial new bill introduced by Texas Representative Brandon Gill seeks to replace Benjamin Franklin with Donald Trump on the $100 bill. Titled the Golden Age Act of 2025, the legislation has ignited debate across the political spectrum. Gill, a freshman congressman, argues that Trump’s presidency ushered in a new era of American prosperity, making him deserving of such an honor.
The bill would require the Treasury Department to design the new bill by the end of 2026, with all $100 bills featuring Trump’s portrait by 2028. Gill shared a mockup of the proposed bill on social media, writing, “Let’s make history.” However, the proposal faces a major obstacle: federal law prohibits living individuals from appearing on U.S. currency.
Despite the legal challenges, Gill and his co-sponsor, Representative Troy Nehls, remain committed to the idea. They argue that Trump’s policies on border security, trade, and energy independence have had a lasting impact on the nation. Meanwhile, other Republicans have proposed similar measures, including a $250 bill featuring Trump and even adding his likeness to Mount Rushmore.
These proposals have drawn mixed reactions. While some conservatives applaud the efforts to honor Trump, others, including many independents and liberals, view them as unnecessary or even inappropriate. Critics argue that such changes would disrupt long-standing traditions and divert attention from more pressing issues.
As the debate continues, one thing is clear: these proposals reflect the deep divide in American politics and the ongoing efforts by some lawmakers to celebrate Trump’s legacy in unique and controversial ways.
