Richard’s 80th birthday was supposed to be a joyous occasion. He decided to surprise his daughter, Deidre, by visiting her. But when she opened the door in tears, his excitement turned to concern.
“Dad, what are you doing here?” Deidre asked, her voice shaky.
“I came to spend my birthday with you!” Richard replied, his smile fading as he noticed her distress. “What’s wrong?”
Deidre quickly wiped her tears. “It’s nothing. I’m just busy. I’ll call you later, okay?” She closed the door, leaving Richard confused and hurt.
Something felt off. Richard peeked through the window and saw two men inside, one holding a gun. He overheard them threatening Deidre about a loan she couldn’t repay.
Richard followed the men to a bar downtown, where he met Mr. Marco, the loan shark. Deidre owed $80,000, and Richard offered his savings, but it wasn’t enough. To save his daughter, he agreed to smuggle a car across the border.
The plan went awry when police dogs detected the car. Richard panicked, leading to a high-speed chase that ended with the car sinking in a river. He barely escaped, shaken but alive.
Determined to help Deidre, Richard mortgaged his house to pay off the debt. When he returned to the bar, Deidre joined him, refusing to let him face the danger alone. As Mr. Marco threatened them, police stormed in, rescuing them just in time.
Afterward, Deidre tearfully apologized. Richard hugged her, saying, “You’re not a failure. I just wish you’d come to me sooner.” They left the ordeal stronger, grateful for each other.
