Lost and Found: Cat Survives Hurricane Flood Against All Odds

The Collins family had already lost so much when Hurricane Helene’s floods ripped through their North Carolina home. But their greatest heartbreak came when they saw their cat, Ricardo Blanco, struggling in the churning waters before being carried away.

For over a week, they held out little hope—until a faint meow led them to an unbelievable sight. Blanco, dirty and exhausted but alive, had somehow found his way back.

Veterinarians from Best Friends Animal Society treated him for eye and ear infections, but his spirit was unbroken. “He’s up to his old self,” said owner Nan Collins, who calls him their “little movie actor” for his playful, charismatic personality.

In a time of so much loss, Blanco’s return is a small but powerful beacon of resilience—proof that even nature’s fury can’t extinguish every light.
