Barack Obama has taken a sharp jab at Donald Trump after the former president froze $2.3 billion in federal funding to Harvard University. The dispute began when Harvard refused to comply with a series of demands from the Trump administration, which included dismantling diversity programs and altering admissions policies.

Obama, who has never shied away from criticizing Trump, recently stated, “There are a host of policies where I have strong opinions,” hinting at his disapproval of Trump’s approach to governance. He doubled down on his stance by publicly supporting Harvard’s decision, calling the administration’s demands an overreach.
Harvard President Alan Garber argued that while the university is committed to fighting antisemitism, the government’s demands amounted to an attempt to “control teaching and learning.” Obama echoed this sentiment, applauding Harvard for resisting what he labeled an “unlawful” move.
The Department of Education criticized Harvard’s response, accusing the Ivy League school of arrogance. Meanwhile, Trump’s demands—which also included banning face masks on campus—have sparked debate over free speech and government interference in higher education.
