Dolly Parton’s family is facing another heartbreaking loss with the passing of her brother, David Parton. He died peacefully at his Tennessee home on November 15, aged 82.
David’s sister, Stella, shared the news on social media, describing him as a kind, compassionate, and devoted man. She fondly referred to him as “sweet David” and highlighted his service in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Aside from his military service, David had a successful career as a bridge-building superintendent for Simpson Construction. He contributed significantly to projects in Knoxville, Johnson City, and Kingsport.
David is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kay, daughters Donna and Dena, “nephew/son” Lucas Townsend, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His siblings, including Dolly and Stella, also mourn his loss.
The family will hold a funeral service at Leadvale Baptist Church on November 19, followed by burial at Dandridge Memorial Gardens.
David’s passing comes after a string of losses for the Parton family. His brothers Larry, Floyd, and Randy, as well as their parents, Robert and Avie Lee, and infant son, Donnie, preceded him in death.
Randy passed away in January 2021 after battling cancer. Dolly paid tribute to him on Facebook, finding solace in their faith. She cherished memories of their musical collaborations, including the duet “Old Flames Can’t Hold a Candle to You.”
Floyd, a talented songwriter, died in December 2018. His obituary celebrated his many talents, love of nature, and culinary skills. He wrote hits like “Nickels and Dimes” for Dolly’s album.
The family’s grief is compounded by these losses, but David’s enduring love and generosity will be deeply missed.
As they navigate this difficult time, the Parton family finds comfort in their faith and the memories they shared with David. His legacy will continue to inspire and uplift those who knew him.
