Kevin Brosseau, a veteran law enforcement official, has been tasked with leading Canada’s efforts to combat fentanyl trafficking. Brosseau’s extensive background in national security and drug enforcement makes him well-suited for the role. Trudeau expressed confidence in Brosseau’s ability to disrupt illegal drug networks and enhance cross-border cooperation with the U.S.
To further address Trump’s concerns, Trudeau has committed $1.3 billion to bolster border security. The plan includes advanced surveillance technology, such as drones and mobile towers, as well as increased personnel along the border. Canada has also classified organized crime cartels as terrorist entities, enabling law enforcement to take stronger action against drug traffickers.
Trudeau acknowledged that while fentanyl trafficking from Canada is minimal compared to other routes, it remains a critical issue. He emphasized the need to eradicate fentanyl production and punish those who profit from it.
