Walmart’s Big Store Cuts – 22 Locations Closing Soon

Walmart is trimming its store count this year, shutting down 22 locations that haven’t been pulling their weight financially. One of the first to go? A Richmond, Virginia, store closing in late July.

The retail chain hasn’t named all the affected stores yet, but four in Chicago are definitely on the list. Walmart’s official statement thanked customers for their support but made it clear—these stores just weren’t making enough money to stay open.

It’s no secret that shopping habits have changed. More people are buying online, and Walmart is adapting by cutting back on physical stores that aren’t thriving. While this might be a smart business move, it’s a tough blow for employees and shoppers who relied on these locations.

The good news? Walmart isn’t going anywhere. The company is still investing in its online business and keeping other stores open. But for communities losing their local Walmart, it’s the end of an era.
