Jill Biden Issues Heartbreaking Update On Husband Joe Biden’s Cancer
Jill Biden has shared an emotional update on her husband Joe Biden’s health as the former president continues his battle with an aggressive form of cancer.
The 46th president revealed in 2025 that he had been diagnosed with an advanced form of prostate cancer, prompting concern across the political world and beyond.
At the time, Biden said: “Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”
Since leaving office, the former president has largely stayed out of the spotlight while undergoing treatment.
Now, his wife has offered one of the most candid updates yet about both his health and the challenges they’ve faced behind closed doors.
Joe Biden’s cancer battle shocked the family
Biden’s diagnosis came just months after he left the White House.
Doctors confirmed that he had an aggressive form of prostate cancer, although they noted the disease appeared to be hormone-sensitive, making it more responsive to treatment.
The former president began undergoing radiation therapy alongside hormone treatment.
The diagnosis carried extra significance given Biden’s long history of advocating for cancer research after the death of his eldest son, Beau Biden, who died from brain cancer in 2015.
Despite the seriousness of the diagnosis, Biden remained optimistic.
“The prognosis is good,” he previously said. “You know, we’re working on everything. It’s moving along. So I feel good.”
But Jill Biden has now revealed just how unexpected the diagnosis was for the family.
Speaking to CBS News, she admitted: “He’s doing well, but it was a shock. Honestly, I can remember getting the diagnosis, and it was just shocking.”
She also addressed questions about whether the disease should have been detected sooner.
“Well, you know, the doctors said that, according to the American Urological Association, that men over 70 don’t need a PSA, a blood test, any more because it’s a slow-growing cancer,” she explained.
“I do feel we had amazing care in the White House, but somehow that was missed.”
Jill Biden addresses concerns about her husband’s health
The former first lady also spoke about years of speculation surrounding Biden’s physical and mental condition during his presidency.
While acknowledging that age had affected him, she strongly rejected suggestions that he experienced cognitive decline while in office.
“Oh, he was definitely aging; I mean, we were all aging,” she said, per Today. “So, yes, he was slowing down.”
However, she insisted that the man she married remained fundamentally unchanged.
“He was the same, the essence of the same Joe Biden, but yeah, he was slowing down. He was getting older.
“It’s a very intense job. I think it ages you, quickly. Look at the other presidents, I mean, in comparison when they started in office and got out of office. It was natural aging.”
Jill maintained that concerns about her husband’s mental fitness had been exaggerated, saying she never witnessed the kind of cognitive decline that critics alleged.

The debate moment that left Jill terrified
One of the most revealing moments from Jill Biden’s recent interviews centered on Joe Biden’s disastrous 2024 presidential debate against Donald Trump.
The debate ultimately triggered mounting pressure for Biden to withdraw from the race.
While many Americans watched in shock as the president struggled through parts of the event, Jill revealed she was equally alarmed.
“I was frightened, because I had never, ever seen Joe like that, before or since. Never,” she recalled.
As she watched the debate unfold, her mind immediately jumped to a frightening possibility.
“As I watched it I thought, ‘Oh my God, he’s having a stroke.’ “And it scared me to death.”
She said Biden appeared unable to find his footing during the debate and admitted the experience was unlike anything she had ever witnessed from him.
Yet she also emphasized that he appeared normal afterward.
“What people don’t know, he had two events after that, and he was fine. I mean he was fine. It was inexplicable.”
The former first lady also defended her support of Biden’s reelection campaign, insisting the decision to remain in the race had to be his alone.
“It couldn’t be me; it had to be his decision,” she said.
The heartbreaking reality of Biden’s condition
While Biden’s treatment has shown encouraging signs, Jill has acknowledged that the cancer presents a long-term challenge.
Speaking on NBC’s TODAY show, she confirmed the disease has spread to his bones.
“He’s doing OK,” she said. “I think if he had just been diagnosed with prostate cancer, that’s one thing because that can be cured, but the fact that it metastasized to his bones, that makes it a whole different story.”
She then shared the heartbreaking reality the family is facing.
“And so I think Joe will live with cancer till the rest of his life.”
Despite that difficult prognosis, Jill said her husband continues to stay active and focused on treatment.
She described herself as ‘vigilant’ when it comes to monitoring his health and wellbeing.
However, she stressed that he is ‘doing well’ and responding to treatment.
She also defended his mental fitness during his presidency, acknowledging that he was ‘slowing down’ while insisting he remained ‘the essence of the same Joe Biden.’
According to the Independent, the family remains hopeful despite the difficult road ahead.
For now, the Biden family remains focused on treatment, recovery, and spending time together.
